Construction Update:
The beginning of the year saw the completion of a wing that now houses a diagnostic waiting room, as well as our CT unit and mammogram unit. Since July, patients are seeing a new registration area, redesigned to enhance privacy and comfort. Other plans for reconstruction are on the horizon.
High Quality Imaging:
Patients needing imaging services now have access to high-resolution exams with the hospital's new 16-slice CT scanner. The scanner provides images of the body, including abdomen, pelvis, head and chest, in a short amount of time. What's more, this technology makes it possible to take orthopedic, angiography and cardiology images in three dimension. These services are availble 24-hours for the patients of St. Martin Hospital.
Digital Mammography:
The process of diagnosing breast cancer has become more accurate and comfortable for patients at St. Martin Hospital with the purchase of digital mammography at the beginning of the year. "The digital machine is very accurate and fast, so patients spend less time in uncomfortable positions," said radiologic technologist Gloria Frederick. And, because the images are acquired digitally, they are displayed immediately on the system monitor, making transmission from one physician to another quick and easy. To schedule your yearly mammogram, call 337-507-1244; a doctor's order is required.
New ED Medical Director:
The emergency department of St. Martin Hospital has seen performance improvements due, in part, to the guidance of its medical director Dr. Geralyn Reine, who joined the hospital in October 2010. A graduate of LSU Medical School, Dr. Reine brings emergency medicine experience from Jennings American Legion Hospital. Dr. Reine also runs the hospital's wound care clinic.
